Selim S. Shaker is Director of and Consulting Geologist for Geopressure Analysis Services (G.A.S.) in Houston, Texas, geopressureinc@cs.com. He attended Assiut University, Egypt where he received a B.SC. (Honor) in Applied Geology (1964), a M.Sc. (1969) and his Ph.D. (1973) in Geology. He also received a diploma in Hydrogeology (1975) from Prague University (UNESCO).
Dr. Shaker has over 30 years of experience in the oil industry. His recent work has been focused on the Shelf and Deep Water of the Gulf of Mexico; however, he has worldwide exploration experience in Egypt, NW Australia, Algeria, Libya, North Sea and China. He conducted several regional studies on the importance of seismic stratigraphy, reservoirs and geopressure compartmentalization in regards to play concepts, leads and prospect assessments. During his career he discovered and developed over 200 MMBOE. Prospect generation onshore and offshore was and is his favorite endeavor.
After retiring from Phillips Petroleum Company in 2000, after 20 years of service, he established G.A.S. The company's primary services focus on geopressure prediction and assessment based on compartmentalization and geopressure modeling. Building the geological foundation for pore pressure prediction is his exclusive specialty.
Dr. Shaker's numerous published papers and industry presentation deal with pore pressure predictions, geopressure compartmentalization, seal integrity, hydrocarbon trapping, geological modeling, etc. (previous page).
He is an active member of AAPG, Society of Exploration |Geophysicists (SEG), Houston Geological Society (HGS), Geological Modeling Society of Houston (GMSH) and American Association of Drillimg Engineers (AADE).
